NIJ Grant to Develop CapWIN Mobile-Next Generation (Mobile-NG)

CapWIN recently received a grant from the National Institute of Justice to support CapWIN Mobile-Next Generation (Mobile-NG).  The project will develop a handheld application for law enforcement that will support critical functions for officers in the field and improve the kind, quality and efficiency of operational information it delivers.  Replacing CapWIN’s current mobile handheld client, the system will be designed to be platform independent, scalable across agencies, and able to evolve with inevitable changes in technology and user requirements.  The result will be a thoroughly field tested, Government-Off-The-Shelf (GOTS), open source solution, and will be made available to government agencies for implementation and adaptation to their operational purposes.

The project will be carried out in cooperation with CapWIN member agencies and developed in partnership with Intuidex, Inc, a leading developer of data analysis and visualization tools; Tricom Systems, Inc, which has provided on-going technical support for CapWIN’s application development; and Open Networks, Inc (ONI), which will provide expertise in the integration of new data sources into the law enforcement mobile environment, and on national justice data standards.  For more information about CapWIN products and services visit www.capwin.org.
