CITE Announces New Partnership

Training budgets are tight and you probably need some training for your ever-increasing workload.  There is a solution to this problem!

The Consortium for ITS Training and Education (CITE) and the Intelligent Transportation Society (ITS) Joint Program Office (JPO) Professional Capacity Building (PCB) Program under the Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA) are pleased to announce a new joint partnership which will enable CITE to offer unlimited FREE access to their courses to U.S. local, regional, metropolitan, and Federal government agencies!

This new offer includes any of CITE’s independent-study courses, blended courses, certificate programs and full-semester courses. CITE has developed 39 individual short courses from between 4 to 12 hours in length. Blended versions (combination of instructor-led and online) were developed for 13 of these courses. CITE’s 2 full-semester programs consist of 11 of the short courses. The certificate programs consist of 6 short courses bundled by topic area.

All of these offerings are part of the comprehensive CITE curriculum which will give you an invaluable foundation of knowledge.

CITE courses are ideal for both transportation professionals and college/university students:

• Transportation professionals register for courses directly through CITE and receive continuing education units (CEU’s) from the University of Maryland for successful completion of their training courses
• College and university students receive the information through CITE’s University Partners and they earn credits toward a degree

About the ITS PCB Program
Building the professional capacity needed to support deployment of ITS infrastructure across the nation is and continues to be a priority for the PCB Program.   ITS deployment rests upon a foundation of multidisciplinary knowledge, skills, and abilities. It requires expertise in information, communications, electronics, and automation technologies and systems integration. ITS deployment requires unprecedented cooperation among public-sector agencies and between the public and private sectors, necessitating new skills in partnering, contracting, and negotiations. However, due to the state of the economy, combined with the decreased budgets allocated to training and education for most transportation agencies, professional development resources are limited.  The ITS PCB program is pleased to work with CITE to offer a solution to obtain training with limited training resources.

About CITE
The Consortium for ITS Training and Education (CITE) is a unique organization of over 100 universities and industry associations focused on providing comprehensive advanced transportation training and education.  CITE is managed by staff of the Center for Advanced Transportation (CATT) at the University of Maryland (UMD).  It was formed in late 1998 as a result of the need to provide transportation engineering students and professionals with an integrated curriculum covering the transportation engineering (a branch of civil engineering), computer science, systems engineering, and business knowledge necessary to work in today’s advanced transportation field. 

CITE courses are all developed in an interactive web-based format and are available 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week. The courses provide student interactivity through a stimulating mix of participatory activities, such as self-study quizzes, exercises or problems, and drag-and-drop pages. These activities help support and reinforce the text-based information and keep students engaged and active in the learning process.
